Sheridan Landfills & Leachate Study Demo. Come and tour Ft. Sheridan Landfills 6 & 7 while the prairie grass flowers are in full bloom! The U.S. Army is announcing a tour of Landfills 6 & 7 at Fort Sheridan for June 13th 2007. The public will be allowed to view the caps and ask any questions. The tour will start at 6 PM in front of Building 100. See below for directions. There will also be a demonstration of the Leachate Pilot Study. An Illinois EPA approved Leachate Pilot Study was scheduled to begin on June 8th. This study will determine the effectiveness, safety and economical potential of sprinkling benign leachate (liquid product of the landfills) onto an area just adjacent to Building 100 to water grass and shrubs instead of transporting the leachate offsite for disposal. Details on the Pilot Study will be provided. Allow one hour for the tour and demonstration. To get to Building 100, start at Patten Road and 2nd Street. Go about 200 feet south to the first opening in the fence on your left. Make a left and take it east to the only building in view. This is Building 100. Parking is available. Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is holding a series of workshops in the region to engage local leaders in the challenges of implementing the 2040 Regional Framework Plan, a vision for the future. The workshops will provide an overview of the direction of CMAP and an update of the agency's progress thus far. Participants will use an exciting new planning tool, the Centers Toolkit, which is designed to be a resource for local communities in enhancing their center places. CMAP will also facilitate a discussion around the upcoming integrated plan for land use and transportation, the Regional Comprehensive Plan, which is scheduled for completion in 2010.
